JOB SUMMARY

 

The Fiber Optic Technician for R & D supports the Product Management Group. The group works with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to provide coordination to take raw materials through to finished passives design, cabling, and test equipment. In this position, the individual performs a variety of tasks supporting the design, prototyping, transition to production, documentation and test of specialty fiber optic cables, cable assemblies, and other passive optical components. This position also supports the transition from Engineering/Product Development to Operations and Production within the organization. It further supports the smooth transition from Product Development all the way to the Customer, including providing sales and marketing support for the Passives Product Manager. This full-time, hourly position reports to the Director of Engineering, Interconnect Products.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES    

 

The following outlines basic duties and responsibilities which are not intended to be all-inclusive.

 

  • Builds sample fiber optic cable assemblies for Sales and Customer requirements
  • Performs complex “first” builds to include documenting preliminary work instructions
  • Assembles and tests short run orders of cable assemblies
  • Provides production support and debugging for new product or production equipment introductions
  • Performs final assembly and tests prototypes of cable assemblies

 

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent with training to be proficient in the position
  • 3-5 years relatable manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Experience working with small hand tools and equipment
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (e.g. ISO 9000, AS9100)
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations
  • Able to build relationships, present ideas, and work with a diverse group in a collaborative manner
  • Has strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and effective time management skills
  • S. citizenship required
