      • Electrical Options

        The upcoming release of the LAC or LRU Active Cable offers design engineers the an extremely flexible interface to optical transceivers. The PCB flex cable can be configured with just about any style of high quality electrical connector. We offer it standard with the Molex SlimstackTM, but it could have the TE FinestackTM or Samtec’s RazorTM, or even an FCI connector. This flexibility enables the LAC to adapt to the requirements of the LRU: thru-hole, surface mount, or pluggable.

      • Shock and Vibe!

        COTSWORKS performs harsh environmental testing including Humidity, Shock, Vibration, and EMI performance to industry standard and customer specific needs. Our RJ, RCP, and SFF products have a standard set of reports available and our cable and termini products also have a standard set including items such twist and pull strength. Products also have standard reliability reports such as MIL 217.

        COTSWORKS does schematic capture, layout, cast metal, sheet metal, and firmware design in house with tools like Altium and SolidWorks programs. Our transceivers’ components are tested individually with internally developed Optical Sub-Assembly testers and tested at various stages through the assembly process. PCBs are fabricated and assembled with components at a select group of Contract Manufacturers that we monitor closely throughout each year. Our metal components are made for us to our designs and specifications and with our tools.

        COTSWORKS is participating in the 2017 AVFOP (IEEE Avionics and Vehicle Fiber-Optics and Photonics Conference) held on November 7-9 in New Orleans, LA. This application-oriented conference provides an international forum for leaders, researchers, engineers, and manufacturers to convene and discuss issues of deploying photonics-based avionics and vetronics technologies in harsh environments. COTSWORKS will demonstrate new technology that enables increased channel count in limited wiring space, 10Gbps data links on short or long fiber links, and introduce new interconnect technology for harsh environments.

      • Fiber Optics Subcommittee (FOS)

        St. Augustine, Florida

        The Fiber Optics Subcommittee (FOS) will meet to continue the development of ARINC Fiber Optic Standards used in air transport aircraft and other aircraft with similar requirements. The subcommittee’s current work projects include documenting Mechanical Transfer (MT) technology in airborne fiber optics This project is intended for future aircraft programs as well as the retrofit of existing airframes. Applications for this technology include avionics, in-flight entertainment systems, and other uses.
